the (mini) tallow guide
101 level
Tallow is rendered bovine fat, used for centuries in balms, soaps, and candles. Sounds suspect, works mysteriously well to moisturize dry skin.
Two compelling reasons:
- Traditional lotions are water-based, which means they often contain preservatives, alcohols, and stabilizers to maintain texture and shelf life. Tallow balm is oil-based and naturally stable, allowing for extremely simple formulations with only a few ingredients. Nothing toxic, nothing synthetic, nothing artificial.
- Rendering bovine fat is a sustainable, eco-friendly practice. It makes use of fat that would otherwise go to waste, and avoids the heavy industrial processing most large-scale lotion producers use.
Depends on who's making it. Our tallow is painstakingly rendered in small-batches, and hand-whipped until it's always fluffy, never greasy.
Our proprietary process removes all scent from the tallow, allowing our clients to enjoy a completely unscented product, or select one of our exclusive scents developed in house at our apothecary.

skincare your biology recognizes
Modern skincare is often built on petroleum derivatives, synthetic stabilizers, and long ingredient lists designed more for shelf life than skin health.
At Vache, we take a different approach.
We formulate with as few ingredients as possible, selecting each one for a specific purpose and never for marketing.
